Pathways LA hosts Inaugural Summer Family Fun Day

Pathways LA Staff

On Saturday, June 30th, Pathways LA hosted its inaugural Summer Family Fun Day at First Baptist Church of Los Angeles, located at 760 S. Westmoreland Avenue in Koreatown. The event highlights our expanded efforts to partner with the families we serve. It is part of our Family Engagement Initiative which is rooted in the Strengthening Families Framework. We want to help families better understand their child’s development, build stronger networks and support groups within their community, provide an outlet for quality family time, and help connect families to other valuable services and resources in the community.

The festivities included an Elmo puppet show and magic act that were equal parts education and entertainment. Children were also treated to a petting zoo, pony and carousel rides, and games while parents had the opportunity to meet with local community organizations including:

Throughout the day Pathways LA connected with parents in an effort to engage them in a future focus group to gain helpful insight into what they want and need in a Family Engagement Program.

Adding to the excitement, Pathways LA hosted a raffle giveaway with prizes generously donated by Los Angeles City Council President Herb J. Wesson, JR. Families walked away with prize baskets and even a few bicycles! In addition to the gifts provided by LA City Council, Kidspace Children’s Museum and Aquarium of the Pacific donated admission tickets which were raffled off to a couple of lucky winners!

Saturday’s event is the first in what is to be an annual festival. As Pathways LA celebrates 40 years of helping families access affordable, world class child care, we look forward to hosting a series of events throughout the year.
